There have been many wonderful tributes to Arnold Palmer so far this week at Bay Hill. Many golfers are honoring Palmer with umbrella-themed gear, but Fowler plans to pay the King tribute in style.
Fowler partnered with Puma to create a pair of golf shoes which will feature, most notably, a high-grade infused graphic of several Palmer photos printed directly into the leather. The design is so unique, colorful, tasteful and overall – perfect. Who wouldn’t want to rock these?
He plans to wear the shoes at the 2017 Arnold Palmer Invitational, the first time the Orlando event has been played since Palmer passed away in September 2016.
Only two pairs of the shoes exist – one Rickie will wear during the invitational, and the other, personally autographed by Rickie, will be auctioned off for charity to benefit Arnie’s Army Charitable Foundation.
Throughout the week Rickie will also sport the iconic umbrella logo on his hat and polo.
These unique high-top shoes feature Arnold Palmer’s iconic signature laser-engraved on the Velcro strap, designed by Dominic Chambrone, known in the apparel world as “The Shoe Surgeon”. You can see the umbrella logo behind the tongue of the left shoe, and on the right side, there’s a quote from Rickie on Arnie’s influence.
Here’s what it says: “Legends never die. You will live on forever Arnie. I will never forget the bear hug in front of the clubhouse at Augusta, watching you hit your final tee shot there, and to spending time with you in the locker room at Bay Hill. Thank you for being you and giving me the opportunity to do what I get to do everyday! I love you as did everyone! RIP The King.”
The King’s influence on the golf game is unmatched and chief among that is his impact on golf style. Fowler is honoring Palmer in an awesome way — It’s a perfect tribute to the King of Golf.
As the 2017 golf season makes way for new gear and technology, we wanted to give you a list of some of the best golf equipment that’s been released so far (sported by some famous PGA Pro Players, too).
Driver – Taylormade M1
Clubs come and go in Dustin Johnson’s bag with a fair amount of frequency, but he has a special love for his Taylormade M1 driver. In fact, he won the Genesis Open and WGC-Mexico Championship using this driver (way to go DJ!)
The new M1 uses 43 percent more carbon fiber than its predecessor, which really helps with creating a higher launch angle. The design is sleek, slim and more forgiving than its predecessor. It also has a new aluminum loft sleeve and an active speed pocket, causing drives to fly with excessive spin.
Fairway Wood – Tour Edge Ex10
To make a driver that can deliver more distance off the tee, Tour Edge designed the new Exotics EX10 driver using two kinds of titanium to create a faster-flexing face. The BSP Beta titanium used in the face is so light that it allowed engineers to make the hitting area larger, which broadened the sweetspot for golfers.
Hybrid – Callaway Steelhead XR
The new Steelhead heads are longer from heel-to-toe and deeper from front-to-back, which according to Callaway, makes the hybrid longer, more forgiving and easier to launch. The Steelhead XR should slip through grass, whether you’re in the fairway or in the rough, a little more easily.
Irons – Edel Single Length
Single length iron sets have gotten much more press since Bryson DeChambeau has been using them. Edel Golf made DeChambeau’s earliest single-length sets. It seems odd to think about using irons that are the same size, but the logic behind single-length iron sets is simple: It promotes a more consistent swing and eliminates the need to make stance, ball-position and swing-plane adjustments as the club gets longer or shorter.
Wedges – Cleveland RTX 3 Line
Cleveland’s RTX-3 line includes both traditional blade designs and cavity back models and a full complement of 34 loft and bounce combinations with three sole grinds. The three sole grinds all incorporate a larger initial bounce angle which will improve the way the club moves through the turf so the head loses less speed. There was also some tweaks to its three-tiered approach to grooves and surface roughness on the face for better spin on the golf course
Putter – Bettinardi
Bettinardi has made putters for some of the game’s best, with more than 20 wins on the PGA Tour since 2000. In Jan 2017, Bettinardi released eight new putter models, all featuring a gray finish and a blue-black color scheme, as well as the company’s hallmark F.I.T. Face technology, where material is removed from the face in order to produce a softer feel at impact.
Ball – Snell “My Tour”
Some golfers want a ball that flies farther than the rest, others want green-side spin, while yet others search for the soft feeling. The Snell My Tour Ball is one that meets all the criteria, with an expensive price attached to it. My Tour Ball is the Snell’s premium offering and sells for $31.99 per dozen and provides low compression to reduce spin and increase distance off the longer clubs.
Bag – Ping Monsoon
Don’t let rain wash out your round. The PING Hoofer Monsoon bag offers waterproof construction, four sealed pockets and an attached rain hood snapped inside the cushioned hip pad. A wide, 24-inch leg span provides stability, even on slick surfaces. SensorDry Technology creates the perfect and affordable waterproof golf bag from PING.
As the weather gets warmer and the golfseason draws near, I’m hoping to find a stylish outfit that I can rock on the golf course. Many women golfers will probably want to stick with the knee-length shorts and collared t-shirts, but, I want to challenge you to find an outfit that makes you feel good while you kick butt on the course. Wearing skorts/skirts is not only fashionable, but allows your legs to breathe!
There’s no better way to show off your feminine side than to sport a golf skirt or skort when you play, but you need to make sure you get the right fit and wear the best pieces for your body type. Here are some pointers that can help in selecting the appropriate style for you:
Athletic. If you have an athletic build with narrow hips and slim legs, you’ll look better in styles that have a little drape (extra fabric), pockets at the sides and back pockets with flaps. All these details will give your figure some curves. Ruffles are your best friend. You’ll also want to keep your length slightly above the knee, to show off your slim legs. You can pull off any bold print.
Straight/Thin. If you’re like me, you are thin with a narrow waist and a small bust. You have trouble fitting into clothes that are stretchy. Sometimes, your skorts don’t quite fit the way you want them to. The best advice I have is to find golf skirts with the hem that stops at the shapeliest part of you calf. That will be your best bet. Play with belts, coats, pleats, tights, etc. to maximize the appearance you want to achieve. Also, rocking some bright colors like pink, orange or blue will accentuate your body a little bit more.
Hourglass. The key to dressing an hourglass body type is to balance your lower body with your bust, while accentuating your waist. To accommodate this, pick skort styles that fit close to the waist and then drape out over the hips and bottom. And since you have a bigger bust, a nice polo v-neck will suit you well.
Oval. You tend to have an undefined waist, a full torso, broad shoulders and slim legs. Pick skirts with a minimal waist band or a style with no waist band at all. De-emphasize your midsection and create a more defined waist. Choose clothing that will add curves and fullness to your lower body and tops that taper to a waist. You have amazing legs so feel free to play with skirt lengths, but don’t go too short otherwise you will further a top-heavy look.
Whatever your body type, you can find a golf skort that will fit you just the way you are. So, go out on the golf course and rock a skort. Be confident, be fashionable. There are tons of brands, sizes and styles to choose from. Just make sure to do some research and find what will best suit you.
