Top Five Drivers 2017

The Top Five Drivers For 2017

The golf season is just around the corner and maybe you’ve been thinking about purchasing a new driver to show off on the course this year. We all want to hit the ball with better distance, speed and performance. With the new innovations in golf equipment technology, this is entirely possible.

From watching Jason Day, Dustin Johnson and Rory Mcllroy rip it off the tee, to seeing Jamie Sadlowski drive it 380 yards on the regular, distance matters.

With so many options on the market, we decided to narrow it down to the best five drivers.

  1. Taylormade M1

taylormade-driver-1024x570-768x428
Clubs come and go in Dustin Johnson’s bag with a fair amount of frequency, but he has a special love for his Taylormade M1 driver. In fact, he won the Genesis Open and WGC-Mexico Championship this year using this driver (way to go DJ!)

The new M1 driver has completely re-vamped its technology to deliver distance, forgiveness and complete personalization.

The M1 uses 43 percent more carbon fiber than its predecessor, which really helps with creating a higher launch angle. The design is sleek, slim and more forgiving than its predecessor. It also has a new aluminum loft sleeve and an active speed pocket, causing drives to fly with excessive spin.

Price: ~$500

2. Cobra King F7

Cobra King F7

Cobra Golf has introduced its longest and smartest driver – the KING F7 – continuing to expand the collection of clubs under the legendary KING brand name. The F7 provides golfers with delivering playable distance and unmatched feel with extreme forgiveness.

In fact, PGA Tour professional Rickie Fowler recently won the Honda Classic with the F7+. It is also used by Lexi Thompson, Jonas Blixt, Jesper Parnevik and World Golf Hall of Fame member Greg Norman.

The F7 driver features a re-engineered face that is lighter and thinner allowing for faster ball speeds. It also has an adjustable weight system and allows for three differing ball flights – low, high and draw, to provide golfers with optimum distance for a variety of conditions. The heavier 12g weight creates a lower, penetrating ball flight with less spin and more roll for maximum distance.

Price: ~$700

3. Callaway Great Big Bertha Epic

GBB_Epic_sole_crown_640x480

The Epic is the first driver to have titanium bars inside the clubhead connecting the crown and the sole to reduce the amount of deflection at impact. Callaway’s innovative “Jailbreak Technology” and Exo-Cage carbon construction gives golfers of any handicap better overall power and improved performance.

Callaway offers a choice four stock shafts in four different weight categories and comes with a choice of basic lofts–9 degrees, 10.5 degrees and a HT model of 13.5 degrees.

Put the Great Big Bertha Epic on your short list. It’s a premium driver that stands out in comparison with others in its class for it’s new look, feel and most importantly forgiveness.

Price: ~$450

4. Ping G

G_Driver_AdImage_Sole-1024x1004

The PING G driver is faster than the G30 and has a bit more forgiveness.

The newest thing about this driver is its Dragonfly Technology.  The structure of the crown is designed to mirror a dragonfly’s wings. The benefit is that the crown is sturdy but lighter and thinner than its predecessors.

The Vortec Technology designed into the rear of the clubhead combines with PING’s “turbulators” on the crown to lower drag on the downswing allowing for greater clubhead speed and therefore ball speed and distance.

Price: ~$400

5. Titleist 917 D2 and D3

Review_Titleist_917D2_917D3_drivers-1021x580

Titleist doesn’t release drivers very often, so when they do it’s a big deal.

Both drivers come with SureFit CG, which is an adjustable weight that allows you to create an optimal centre of gravity. Titleist has also employed Radial Speed Face 2.0 to create a thinner face which will allow you to get more distance regardless of what angle you hit the ball.

Here is the breakdown of the two drivers:

D2

  • Designed for increase distance and forgiveness.
  • Full pear head shape
  • Designed to fit golfers of a wide variety of skill levels

D3

  • Designed for optimal workability and will benefit those who golf regularly
  • Features a deep pear faced design
  • Lower launch speed and spin

Price: ~$500

Should Women Golfers Be Allowed To Wear Leggings On The Course?

What’s The Deal With Leggings?

United Airlines has recently created a fuss over dress code on their airplanes. A few weeks ago, they barred two teenage girls from boarding a flight because they were wearing spandex leggings. Apparently, since they were traveling using an employee travel pass, the dress code banned them from wearing certain apparel, including leggings.  The teenagers agreed to change their clothing and take a later flight.

This incident has caused a social media uproar with the question being asked — Should there be restrictions with what women can and cannot wear? Where should the line be drawn? Is it inappropriate for women to wearing leggings in certain situations? What about on the golf course?

Celebrities like Shannon Watts and Christine Teigen have chimed into this conversation by tweeting about the issue:

The constant debate about when or where women should be allowed to wear leggings is a bit ridiculous. Sure, if you’re going to a super important business conference in Boston, you’re going to want to dress-up. But if you’re going on an airplane for 8 hours, us women want to be comfortable. Who wants to wear jeans for that long? It’s tight, uncomfortable and annoying to wear.

What About Wearing Leggings in Golf?

Well, leggings count as athletic wear, and golf is a sport. In more recent years, leggings have even become accepted as pants. Several women on the LPGA Tour are taking a stand when it comes to sporting a more feminine look while teeing it up. Michelle Wie, for example, has been known to wear leggings under her skirts. As long as the leggings in question are made from a thicker fabric, women should consider them a stylish, comfortable option for the driving range and for the golf course.

Leggings

Golf companies, such as Nike and Puma, are working to creating women’s golf leggings that are fashionable and functional. Lately, I’ve been wearing the Nike Gray Solid Women’s Golf Leggings. These leggings are made with flat seams and stretchy Dri-FIT fabric that hugs your body for total comfort through every round. Especially this time of year, when the New England weather constantly fluctuates between the cold and rainy days, these leggings give me the option of staying warm and dry.

Women

Benefits of Wearing Golf Leggings:

  • Leggings give you 100% of your natural range of motion, helping you perform better.
  • It can be warming, which gives winter golfers a whole new world of wardrobe options.
  • Leggings can be cooling, as offered by the companies that tout the sunscreening properties of their fabrics.
  • Some golf leggings do not cinch your waist. Nike’s leggings have elastic on top to sit around your thigh (something like what bikers have been wearing).
  • Some leggings not only cinch your waist, they shrink it. For this property, look for “compression” on the package.
  • Golf leggings let a woman get away with short skorts or shorts. This is awesome for the young adults who want to stray away from the traditional golf attire.
  • Leggings show the shapeliness of a woman’s legs without showing the imperfections. Those of you who are over 40 know what I’m talking about.

5 Reasons College Women Should Play Golf

If there is one piece of advice I could give to college women, it would be to play golf.

Women still only represent about 20 percent of the U.S. golfing population — a number that has remained largely unchanged for decades.

So, what’s keeping you from jumping in? Here are five reasons college women should start playing golf

  1. Women’s College Golf Scholarships

While it is difficult to confirm the number of women’s golf scholarships that were not awarded in recent years, it is estimated that more than 200 of the available women’s golf scholarships went unused.  With the implementation of Title IX, colleges are required to have the same numbers of athletic scholarships for females and males. This provides a huge opportunity for college female golfers, don’t you think?

  1. Health and Fitness

Okay, so you may not break the same sweat as you do in zumba class, but a good golf game can provide plenty of exercise. The average golfer is said to burn around 1,500 calories per 18 holes of golf. I have to say from experience that walking for five hours on the course while carrying a 50 lb bag on my shoulders definitely got me into shape.

  1. Meet New Friends

Golf provides a great opportunity for college women to get to know each other in a way they didn’t before – and form friendships around their common interest in the game of golf. I wouldn’t have met my two best friends if I didn’t join a college women’s golf league. There’s nothing better than gossiping and getting out a good sweat while golfing with your girlfriends.

  1. Fun Fashion

Golf fashion is big business and you’ll enjoy some amazing options from big brands like PUMA, Antigua, Callaway and Lady Hallagan. If you’re into fashion trends, this is the sport to get into. It opens up a whole new wardrobe world. It’ll be easy to look fashionable rocking those golf skorts, pink tank tops and bejeweled golf shoes while on the green.

  1. Build Important Connections

You can either be invited to go on company outings or get stuck back at the office working.  You don’t need to be good, you just need to be decent. If you can hit the driver in the air 120 yards and make decent contact with the ball most of the time you are set to go. It’s a great way to network with potential employers and to build a deeper relationship with friends from school.

Marc Leishman Wins Arnold Palmer Invitational Wearing NexBelt | Winning Fashion

Why Your Next Belt May Be A NexBelt

With a 52-foot eagle putt on the 16th hole that would have made the late Arnold Palmer proud, Australia’s Marc Leishman took the lead at the Arnold Palmer Invitational on Sunday that led to a one-stroke victory.

Leishman fired rounds of 71, 66, 71 and 69 at Bay Hill to finish with a score of 277 (11 under par). Marc made the win possible by holing a 50-foot eagle putt on the 16th hole and then sank his par putt on the final hole to seal the victory. Marc was inspired to win a trophy for his two sons, Harvey and Ollie, and he thought of Harvey for an extra dose of confidence as he stood over his final putt.

This was Leishman’s second PGA TOUR win, and the first one that his wife Audrey and their two sons were on-hand to watch.

“It’s been a real dream and a real motivation to win a trophy for Harvey and Ollie, and the fact that we’re all here together is a dream come true,” said Audrey.

Marc’s victory earned him a paycheck for $1.56 Million and 500 FedEx Cup Points. He is currently ranked 11th on the FedEx Cup Points List and 32nd in the Official World Golf Rankings. This victory also earned Leishman an invitation to The Masters in two weeks.

Fowler’s Pays Tribute to Arnold Palmer With His Special-Edition Puma Shoes

A Perfect Tribute For The King of Golf

There have been many wonderful tributes to Arnold Palmer so far this week at Bay Hill. Many golfers are honoring Palmer with umbrella-themed gear, but Fowler plans to pay the King tribute in style.

Fowler partnered with Puma to create a pair of golf shoes which will feature, most notably, a high-grade infused graphic of several Palmer photos printed directly into the leather. The design is so unique, colorful, tasteful and overall – perfect. Who wouldn’t want to rock these?

He plans to wear the shoes at the 2017 Arnold Palmer Invitational, the first time the Orlando event has been played since Palmer passed away in September 2016.

Only two pairs of the shoes exist – one Rickie will wear during the invitational, and the other, personally autographed by Rickie, will be auctioned off for charity to benefit Arnie’s Army Charitable Foundation.

Throughout the week Rickie will also sport the iconic umbrella logo on his hat and polo.

These unique high-top shoes feature Arnold Palmer’s iconic signature laser-engraved on the Velcro strap, designed by Dominic Chambrone, known in the apparel world as “The Shoe Surgeon”. You can see the umbrella logo behind the tongue of the left shoe, and on the right side, there’s a quote from Rickie on Arnie’s influence.

Here’s what it says: “Legends never die. You will live on forever Arnie. I will never forget the bear hug in front of the clubhouse at Augusta, watching you hit your final tee shot there, and to spending time with you in the locker room at Bay Hill. Thank you for being you and giving me the opportunity to do what I get to do everyday! I love you as did everyone! RIP The King.”

Arnold Palmer

The King’s influence on the golf game is unmatched and chief among that is his impact on golf style. Fowler is honoring Palmer in an awesome way — It’s a perfect tribute to the King of Golf.

2017 Golf Equipment

What’s New For Golf Bags and Equipment in 2017?

As the 2017 golf season makes way for new gear and technology, we wanted to give you a list of some of the best golf equipment that’s been released so far (sported by some famous PGA Pro Players, too).

Driver – Taylormade M1
Clubs come and go in Dustin Johnson’s bag with a fair amount of frequency, but he has a special love for his Taylormade M1 driver. In fact, he won the Genesis Open and WGC-Mexico Championship using this driver (way to go DJ!)

The new M1 uses 43 percent more carbon fiber than its predecessor, which really helps with creating a higher launch angle. The design is sleek, slim and more forgiving than its predecessor. It also has a new aluminum loft sleeve and an active speed pocket, causing drives to fly with excessive spin.

Fairway Wood – Tour Edge Ex10
To make a driver that can deliver more distance off the tee, Tour Edge designed the new Exotics EX10 driver using two kinds of titanium to create a faster-flexing face. The BSP Beta titanium used in the face is so light that it allowed engineers to make the hitting area larger, which broadened the sweetspot for golfers.

Hybrid – Callaway Steelhead XR

The new Steelhead heads are longer from heel-to-toe and deeper from front-to-back, which according to Callaway, makes the hybrid longer, more forgiving and easier to launch. The Steelhead XR should slip through grass, whether you’re in the fairway or in the rough, a little more easily.

Irons – Edel Single Length
Single length iron sets have gotten much more press since Bryson DeChambeau has been using them. Edel Golf made DeChambeau’s earliest single-length sets. It seems odd to think about using irons that are the same size, but the logic behind single-length iron sets is simple: It promotes a more consistent swing and eliminates the need to make stance, ball-position and swing-plane adjustments as the club gets longer or shorter.

Wedges – Cleveland RTX 3 Line
Cleveland’s RTX-3 line includes both traditional blade designs and cavity back models and a full complement of 34 loft and bounce combinations with three sole grinds. The three sole grinds all incorporate a larger initial bounce angle which will improve the way the club moves through the turf so the head loses less speed. There was also some tweaks to its three-tiered approach to grooves and surface roughness on the face for better spin on the golf course

Putter – Bettinardi
Bettinardi has made putters for some of the game’s best, with more than 20 wins on the PGA Tour since 2000. In Jan 2017, Bettinardi released eight new putter models, all featuring a gray finish and a blue-black color scheme, as well as the company’s hallmark F.I.T. Face technology, where material is removed from the face in order to produce a softer feel at impact.

Ball – Snell “My Tour”
Some golfers want a ball that flies farther than the rest, others want green-side spin, while yet others search for the soft feeling. The Snell My Tour Ball is one that meets all the criteria, with an expensive price attached to it. My Tour Ball is the Snell’s premium offering and sells for $31.99 per dozen and provides low compression to reduce spin and increase distance off the longer clubs.

Bag – Ping Monsoon

Don’t let rain wash out your round. The PING Hoofer Monsoon bag offers waterproof construction, four sealed pockets and an attached rain hood snapped inside the cushioned hip pad. A wide, 24-inch leg span provides stability, even on slick surfaces. SensorDry Technology creates the perfect and affordable waterproof golf bag from PING.

Girls, It’s Time To Rock The Golf Skorts (No Matter Your Size)

Golf Skorts That Will Fit Your Body Type

As the weather gets warmer and the golf season draws near, I’m hoping to find a stylish outfit that I can rock on the golf course. Many women golfers will probably want to stick with the knee-length shorts and collared t-shirts, but, I want to challenge you to find an outfit that makes you feel good while you kick butt on the course. Wearing skorts/skirts is not only fashionable, but allows your legs to breathe!

There’s no better way to show off your feminine side than to sport a golf skirt or skort when you play, but you need to make sure you get the right fit and wear the best pieces for your body type. Here are some pointers that can help in selecting the appropriate style for you:

Athletic. If you have an athletic build with narrow hips and slim legs, you’ll look better in styles that have a little drape (extra fabric), pockets at the sides and back pockets with flaps. All these details will give your figure some curves. Ruffles are your best friend. You’ll also want to keep your length slightly above the knee, to show off your slim legs. You can pull off any bold print.

Golf Skorts
Ruffle Golf Skort Fit for Athletic Body Type

Straight/Thin. If you’re like me, you are thin with a narrow waist and a small bust. You have trouble fitting into clothes that are stretchy. Sometimes, your skorts don’t quite fit the way you want them to. The best advice I have is to find golf skirts with the hem that stops at the shapeliest part of you calf. That will be your best bet. Play with belts, coats, pleats, tights, etc. to maximize the appearance you want to achieve. Also, rocking some bright colors like pink, orange or blue will accentuate your body a little bit more.

Golf Skorts
A Golf Skort For Skinny Curves (Photo credit: Aliexpress)

Hourglass. The key to dressing an hourglass body type is to balance your lower body with your bust, while accentuating your waist.  To accommodate this, pick skort styles that fit close to the waist and then drape out over the hips and bottom. And since you have a bigger bust, a nice polo v-neck will suit you well.

Golf Skorts
Accenuate your waist with a golf skort that drapes out a bit.

Oval. You tend to have an undefined waist, a full torso, broad shoulders and slim legs. Pick skirts with a minimal waist band or a style with no waist band at all. De-emphasize your midsection and create a more defined waist. Choose clothing that will add curves and fullness to your lower body and tops that taper to a waist. You have amazing legs so feel free to play with skirt lengths, but don’t go too short otherwise you will further a top-heavy look.

Golf Skorts
Minimal waistband golf skort

Whatever your body type, you can find a golf skort that will fit you just the way you are. So, go out on the golf course and rock a skort. Be confident, be fashionable. There are tons of brands, sizes and styles to choose from. Just make sure to do some research and find what will best suit you.

Why I Chose Journalism

It was August, 2013. After 5 years long years, I finally graduated from my private catholic high school. Out of the 10 colleges I applied to that same year, I was accepted to all of them. Partly due to my parents, I decided to stay in Rhode Island and get my Bachelor’s degree at Roger Williams University.

When the time came around to decide on the major I was going to pursue, I was faced with uncertainty and confusion. I had no idea what I was good at. I had no serious interest in anything besides history, which, admittedly, I wanted to pursue in the beginning. I decided to try out political science, figuring it could lead me somewhere.

Within a month of my freshman year at college, I switched majors. It was not because of my lack of interest in political science. I actually loved the subject and wanted to continue my studies in that field. But, something I read happened to spark a fire inside me I could not ignore.

It was September 13th when I took a drive and decided to browse Barnes and Noble for a new book. I happened to be looking around in the history section when I stumbled upon a book called ” No Place to Hide” by Glenn Greenwald. This book was written about Edward Snowden’s remarkable discovery of the NSA’s top-secret and unconstitutional spying on hundreds of millions of American’s through the Internet and telephone without any consent given from the citizenry. Finding this book and deciding on a whim to purchase it not only opened my eyes to the world we live in today, but it impacted my career path in an unforeseeable way.

I knew as soon as I finished reading the book that I would become a journalist and do everything in my power to give the truth to the public, whether it be about the government or other affairs, I knew this would be my path.

My recognition of my love for journalism was an epiphany that could not be ignored. I realized how excellent I was at writing, how much I loved reading and how I always watched the news and criticized the government for their wrongdoings. I was in awe and shocked that I couldn’t have realized my passion sooner. It was right in front of me all along, but I just couldn’t see it.

Two years later, I have accomplished more then I ever thought I could. I have had two amazing internships working with a radio station and a news magazine in Rhode Island. I have increased my knowledge and my passion for journalism through the courses I have taken. I am now applying for a 12-week summer internship in Washington, D.C. as a political journalist. I have never been more grateful to have found something that truly inspires me in a way that no other field could have done for me.

In the words of Terry Pratchett,

“Truthfully, without over-egging it, as I often do, the library and journalism, those things made me who I am.”
